Where does the word "tecato" used to call a drug addict come from? The word "tecato" is the Hispano-Americanization of tecatl, a Nahuatl word, which was spoken by some indigenous civilizations in Mexico and Central America. This word is, at the same time, a word and a suffix (a small word with meaning that is pasted at the end of another), and means "person" or "authority", with positive value. Thus, tenyotecatl means "famous" and achtontecatl "commander".
